Cedar Seagull acoustic repair

This one came in in late 2019 for some action work, something I do all the time. This one threw in a curveball though as it was found to have a slight crack starting on the back of the headstock when I was cleaning it up.

It wasnt deep but was in a high stress area and really needed to be addressed as it would only get worse over time. I contacted the owner and filled him in on what I had found, sent him a picture and told him what could be done and it was agreed to stabilize the area.

I've fixed total breaks and they aren't difficult but this was going to be a stabilize without breaking it clean while trying to make it as invisible as possible. My go to for guitars is usually Titebond but decided to go oldschool on this and use hyde glue as the set up time is longer and it would let me fix any mistakes without serious complications.

What I would do would involve a hypodermic needle and inject glue into the crack as pressure was added to open it up slightly then clamp it shut tightly for a few days until the glue set.

Overspill was wiped up and it was clamped for 4 days on the workbench. Then end result was a stable neck with a barely visible surface crack.

Now to address the overly high action. The neck was adjusted, frets leveled, recrowned, and polished. The nut was recut and the bridge saddld was filed to bring the action down to where the owner wanted it.

At 0.03 inches at the 12th fret with no buzzing this acoustic left the shop playing like a dream and should stay that way for many years to come.
